Snacking on my favorite fruit

Do you ever bite into a food and have instant memories? Yesterday my Mom came over to do a bit of crafting for the baby and she surprised me with about 2 dozen of these tasty morsels. It had never occurred to me that not everyone is familiar with guavas...the husband had only had it in a sugary juice form and we dug in to these for dessert and breakfast this morning. When I was a wee one my Grandpa had a tree in his back yard and every fall he would bring in handfuls for me to devour, in fact I have a very vivid memory of me sitting at my grandparents dining table swinging my dangling legs and just munching on these fragrant fruits covered in sugary goodness. One bite last night and it was like I was right back in their kitchen. There really is nothing like fresh homegrown fruit, and thankfully my grandparents house is still in the family so we get to enjoy their fresh guavas, avocados and cactus. A few years before my grandfather passed away he actually brought a small guava stick from his tree to grow in my parents yard and this year was the very first time we actually got fruit from it...they were delicious but not quite the same. So to have these what I lovingly referred to all night as OG's {original guavas} to snack on sure made me smile. And turns out baby loves them just as much, she was kicking away to all the sugar.

What is this?

Now that I'm growing a person I simply can't get enough fruit and thankfully we have a ton of variety available in our neighborhood. But perhaps one of the most interesting and totally new to me options was this  little guy. Unfortunately I have no idea what it really is, the sticker says honeydew nectarine but the sign I bought it from gave information for something called a mango nectarine yet it tastes like a white peach. Anyone ever try this or actually know what it is? So far this baby's favorite snacks are fresh fruit which I am so ok with!

Simple treats

Oh cherries, how I love you. Though I always go toward the deep bing cherries, I couldn't resist these amazing rainier cherries from my local produce market. Perhaps one of the best perks of my neighborhood is the high turnaround of produce, you never know what will be in stock! I grabbed a cup from my Lerf Ewe collection and got snacking...what is your favorite summer fruit?

Make this, chocolate tortillas with fruit

I need to make these chocolate tortilla fruit tacos from Munchin with Munchkins like, now. I've been getting excited by all the fruits that are coming into season, yesterday I picked up the first batch of apricots and oh my goodness I have missed that fresh flavor. I bet paired with chocolate tortillas they'ed be fantastic! And these are the perfect treat for any outing since you can assemble on the go...and for all of you having a Cinco de Mayo party, your guests will be dazzled with this fresh dessert option.

Make this, Pear wafers and Sparkling sorbet

Lets face it, when it comes to desserts its usually the more the merrier and these sugar coated pears would be a perfect match for that sparkling sorbet, don't you think? I imagine the sweet crunch would be a great combo for the zesty sorbet. Of course you could pair them with just about anything, throw in a cup of coffee and you have yourself a tasty afternoon delight.

Make this, Apple nachos

For me summertime has always meant cold drinks, sweet eats and lots and lots of sunshine.  Unfortunately for me, I can't have anything super cold to drink and the current San Francisco weather is a cold and rainy 55 but, I can however still get my sweet eats on.  And these apple nachos may just do the summery trick.  There really isn't anything better then an apple covered in gooey delight and this simple recipe from gimmie some oven looks finger licking good, don't you think?  Might have to make up a batch of these this weekend, veganized of course.  How do you ring in the summer?
