Beautiful inspiration

What makes a room a room?  However you choose to design your space, make sure it fits your style and personality.  I like to take bits and pieces from everywhere to gain inspiration, and slowly but surely my place is becoming a home that fits both my husband and I's quirky and colorful side. How do you get inspired?

Absolutely loving the art on the wall in this living room.  I simply adore yellow, green and orange together.
I dream of an organized office space with shelving.  Every time I tell the husband how handy they are, he always laughs and says there is already enough shelving, even though all our walls are bare!  Maybe I should hang them myself and see if he notices.
Simple, clean and a pop of color.  Homes don't have to be over the top to get attention.  A few vintage pieces and a dog help make a room too!
A great way to add a workspace in a small space?  Hang draperies and shelving in a closet, while keeping your clothing in an armoire or dresser.
Hello gorgeous.  I am so into purple right now, and those pillows and chair, fabulous.  I just want to crawl into bed with a cup of tea and a good book.
There is something about collections of frames in different sizes that makes me giddy.  Mixing prints, illustrations and patterns create a great focal point.  I love that this room has a squared off look, it draws the eye down toward the furniture.
How charming is this little office nook?  Sometimes all you need is a little space to call your own, and this petite desk is adorable with its corresponding containers.  And how fantastic are those windows!

The Brooklyn Home Company

I must be on a beautiful interiors kick right now, hope you are too.  I came across design company The Brooklyn Home Company and just had to share their growing portfolio.  I love the use of color, accessories and attention to detail TBHCo puts into every room, don't you?

Exposed beams, tons of light and a ladder to a loft style bedroom.  What's not to like in this space?  Bookshelves are a great way to show off your personality, throw in a few knick nacs to go with your book collection.  I used to even have lighting in mine, until I went book crazy.

A custom built storage system!  I would absolutely love something like this, quirky and totally functional.  Designed by TBHCo, this storage piece is perfect in any room!

Perhaps one of the most interesting details shown is something TBHCo is calling 'cake molding'.  Have you heard of this term before?  After doing a quick search, the only options coming up were of the edible variety.  It looks similar to an effect I have done before using stencils and joint compound, it gives a 3D effect to your walls, while still being able to paint over the top to blend in with the walls. This design is stunning next to the ornamental woodworkings!

Up for a little eye stimulation?  I ran across photographer Paul Barbera's portfolio, and boy does it have stunning interior shots.  I love scouring photography portfolios, the images of spectacular interior design are perfect to gain ideas for your own home.  Plus, the light is always perfect.

Design challenge

Need a few home decor ideas?  Alycia from Casa Moxie had a wonderful idea of bringing a few designers together for some home ideas, and today she has included my little ideas.  You can check out my design and information over at Casa Moxie today along with Alycia's design.  Its always fun to see what different people come up with for the same space! And a thank you to Tammy for letting us pick apart her master bedroom!

Breaking down the inspiration

Its Thursday, and my has it been a long week.  I am still trying to get my place back in order after a short vacation, isn't it always the hardest!  It did however make me even more excited to find inspiring photos that don't have piles and piles of clutter all over the place.

Mixing and matching finishes are a wonderful way to add charm and give your home a more 'lived in' feel verses those rooms that feel like showrooms.  And how about those light fixtures!  An industrial look over a country inspired table, fantastic.

This shot just makes me want to curl up with a good book under that window.  With all the white, it gives the room and even bigger feel, and loving that little green cabinet/table.

I just loving using different objects as vases, and these blue canisters make for lovely spring centerpieces.  Don't be afraid to pull out unusual objects, the make for even more interesting florals.  One of my favorite objects to use is a white tea pot, gives it a whimsy feel.

While benches may be a little more difficult for adults to get up and down from, they are a great option for casual dining.  From the colored pillows to the clear lamps, I love everything about this space.  But those baked goodies wouldn't make it more then 5 minutes in this place!

For all the collectors out there, get creative with your displays!  These mini cake stands double for a creative and unique way to display little items all while reminding you to enjoy your collections instead of piling them in boxes.

How fun is this for a child's room!  While you might create a future font lover with this one, it is a wonderful way to create a learning environment through colors, letters and textures.

Plain and simple, I want to move in.  That gold wallpaper is fantastic, and paired with the charm of the white washed accessories its a dream bedroom.  Natural lighting is my best friend.

And in case you need an excuse for getting all those fun chores done.  Although I need a little flag for dishes, grocery shopping and vacuuming too.

Tumblr Thursday

April 1st.  Can I just say this year has been flying by!?  Today I found myself gravitating to all things light and entertaining.  With spring in the air, its time to air out the house, update the winter decor with lovely new hues for the summer and of course my favorite, hanging fun garland.  Happy Thursday.

If I could get my shelves to be as organized as this, I would seriously be one happy camper.

What's not to love?  A rocker, exposed concrete, wooden floors and flooded with sunlight?  When can I move in?

How fun is this photo runner!  This would be an awesome way to dress a table for any occasion.
