Paul Davies

Always a fan of color, I just fell in love with the works of the amazingly talented landscape artist Paul Davies. Using a mixture of techniques, Paul creates stunning scenes with photography, stenciling and acrylic to get intricate detail of the familiar. If you have ever picked up an architectural book you will notice a few familiar and iconic mid century homes in his works. Browsing through his pieces really took me back to my college days, there is just something so soothing about these homes its hard to believe they have been around for decades- they just ooze modern.

Architectural beauty

Over the weekend I was getting caught up on all my blog reading and came across these architectural gem over on design love fest, one of my favorite blogs for all things color and design. While this home in Fukawa, a suburb of Hiroshima, was designed for 4 people to call home, its architecture is simply stunning. Funny enough, when I was in college I had to take a 3D modeling class where we built scale models of homes and design elements. One of our assignments was to build shapes out of a box and wouldn't you know it mine looked exactly like this house. Well, it was more of a squared box, but the front door and window placement were exactly the same! And I even had overlapping floors like the interior of this home! What do you think of the design? Back then, my teacher- who wasn't the fondest of me- told me how bad it was, but looking at this home, my design looks like it would have worked. I just love the look of the interior with the sharp angles and use of natural woods. And that front door, swoon.

My dream library

For as long as I can remember, one of my dreams has always been to have an amazing in home library, perhaps I watched Beauty and the Beast a few too many times when I was little, but that library in the Beasts' castle, swoon!  Anyway, when I came across this pre fabricated home from Kraus-Schoenberg Architects I just fell in love. Designed to enhance both indoor and outdoor life, this prefab is made of CNC cut timber panels that provide the home with insulation, a greener thumbprint and lower costs to the consumers. A win win if you ask me. With a floor to ceiling library that expands over two floors (!), a sunken in bottom level for optimum yard enjoyment and a relatively open floor plan, I wish I could just pick this right up and place it near a beach. Friday findings

This week has just flown by, hope you had a chance to stop and enjoy a bit of it.  I've got my fingers crossed the weather will be nice enough to get some major gardening done, all of these days without sun are doing a number to our growing veggies.  What are you up to this weekend?

Creative built-ins

Designers Ben Edwards and Juliet Moore of Edwards Moore have a wonderful point of view when it comes to architecture and design.  The space overlooks a public pool and uses very minimal materials to create a refreshing and modern space.  One of the funnest elements?  The bookcase has a dog kennel enclosed! Seriously, brilliant.  The main feature of this home?  The use of OSB (oriented strand board, ((made from waterproof heat cured adhesives that are cut into rectangular shapes and are placed across each other, giving it a look similar to plywood)).  Its a look that is not super easy to pull off, but I love the way Ben and Juliet used it.  Keeping wall colors to a minimum will make large and detailed focal points pop even more.

Now what do you think?

Last night the husband was showing me all the 'boy' stuff he found around the net and pointed out a very dark, very familiar home.  Earlier in the month, I shot this photo as part of my photo of the day collection and asked if anyone else liked it.  Well, color me surprised to find out it belongs to Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Ferrell.  Or at least was owned by him since it is up on the market now for a nice 1.6 mil.  The outside may be dark and interesting to say the least, but the interior is very modern and minimalist.  The home features a lap pool, sliding glass wall, rooftop terrace, 3 car garage and a blue screen for filming. I totally dig it now.  Ok, and its cool that its only one street over from my place.
