Create: A bit of warmth

My oh my it has been quite a week. Thanks to a fun round of GERD, I have been laid up in bed trying to keep anything down and this morning was the very first time I haven't woken up having to get sick. I know, gross right? So now that I am totally behind on my create project, I suppose I will have to play a mean game of catch up.

I believe I have mentioned this behemoth of a project before and well, I am still no closer to having it done I am afraid. Though I have huge plans for it {its going to sit on our queen sized bed so it needs to be huge!} it sure is taking me forever and a day. If only I could have had the strength to hold knitting needles this week I would have gotten so much done. Oh well. I suppose it is destined to be the forever project. Do you have anything that you are working on that is taking you a ridiculous amount of time to finish, or am I the only one?

A little while back I mentioned I was about to take on a huge knitting project and so far so good though it is seeming to take me a bit longer then expected to make each part...but really, what crafting project ever comes out on time? I've still got months ahead of me, but scrolling through good ol Martha's website has got me back on the knitting bandwagon. I'm making something similar in size and design so to see a final result makes me want to keep pushing my little fingers to their breaking point. So, how do you stay inspired to keep going on projects?

Playing with needles

I've been on a knitting streak lately for the gift giving season and now that its over I figured I'd start a little something for myself. After organizing my yarn and making it look a little less like a giant rats nest, it got me in the knitting mood and considering its still brrrr cold around here a scarf seemed to be the logical choice. Just hope it doesn't take me forever, I'm always so bad at starting projects and then walking away from them! And speaking of bad at starting and finishing, as of last night I am also in the process of making little cozies for our seedlings {they are in tin cans in the window sill}. Knitted goods are everywhere around here, thought I would share a few of my favorites I've seen here and there....

And of course knits aren't just limited to our clothing, there are fantastic tutorials out there on how to use old knitted sweaters to make fancy goodies for the home. A knitting basket made from a knitted sweater, love it!  And that blanket has me considering making another giant blanket for the bed. I've made patch like knitted blankets before and have been looking for a big project....

Quick break for poufs

There really is nothing like stretching out across the floor and these colorful knitted poufs are the perfect accessory.  Mary Marie Knits out of Berkely hand makes each pouf and offers them either stuffed or flattened for you to fill till your little heart desires.  A little collection would be fun in a corner and sure would come in handy when guests stop by and you need a little extra seating.  And if you are in the bay area, Mary Marie Knits will be at the Renegade Craft Fair this weekend in San Francisco at Fort Mason so stop by and say hello, I'm sure Cara would love it.

I am so glad I have a bunch of blankets around, I can't seem to shake this cold.  I actually knitted the pink one, the multicolored was a great thrift find!

Getting crafty

I have been knitting up a storm lately, although can't for the life of me seem to finish the end detailing for this baby blanket.  When I came across these quirky and fun installments from Magda Sayeg of Knittaplease, it gave me a little boost to keep on going.  Made with found knitted elements from around the world, Magda creates unusual ways of transforming cold and hard urban surfaces into soft and homey art pieces.  Check out the rest of Magda's work over on her blog, where you can see how the motorcycle came to life.

I have been knitting this blanket for a dear friends new baby forever.  Seriously.  The baby was born 2 months early in September and I still have a little left to finish.  I just hope its big enough.
